Paul J. Massey, Jr.

Paul Massey was born in Boston, Massachusetts where he attended the Roxbury Latin School. He graduated from Colgate University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, in 1983.

Mr. Massey began his career at CBRE and soon became head of the market research department in Midtown Manhattan, then as an investment sales broker.

He founded Massey Knakal Realty Services together with his colleague Robert A. Knakal, whom he met at CBRE. The company became the New York metropolitan area’s dominant commercial investment sales brokerage firm. With over 225 employees serving more than 200,000 property owners, Massey Knakal Realty Services was consistently ranked New York’s #1 investment sales firm in volume for 14 consecutive years.

As CEO of Massey Knakal, he led the development of the firm’s strategic initiatives including geographic expansion as well as the growth of the firm’s service lines. At the end of 2014, Cushman & Wakefield acquired Massey Knakal and Mr. Massey was appointed President, New York Investment Sales.

In 2017, Paul Massey ran as a Mayoral Candidate for New York City, primarily focusing on education, housing and homelessness while also providing solutions for how to improve quality of life in the city.

In July 2018, Mr. Massey and his partners launched a new commercial brokerage firm, B6 Real Estate Advisors, short for “Building By Building, Block By Block”. The investment sales and capital advisory firm specializes in middle-market ($1-$200 million). The firm employs a distinct Territory Network model, that ensures sub-market expertise for its agents along with an owner-aligned philosophy and a technology-forward platform.

Mr. Massey is a member of numerous organizations including REBNY and The Lower East Side Tenement Museum. He is also an amateur boxer and an avid skier.  He and his wife, Gretchen, have three children; son, Paul III, and daughters, Sarah and Greta. He resides in Larchmont, NY.

Aaron Birns

Mr. Birns is a Senior Associate at B6 Real Estate Advisors working alongside Director Andy Chen. Aaron specializes in Investment Sales in the Northeastern section of Queens.

Aaron started his real estate career in 2015 at Marcus & Millichap where he directed sales activities including lead prospecting, marketing, and representing sellers on an exclusive basis. Prior to joining B6, Aaron served as an investment sales broker at TerraCRG and Meridian Capital group where he primarily focused in selling investment properties throughout Brooklyn, resulting in a transaction volume of $170M in sales.

Aaron earned a Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality Management from Syracuse University.

Adrian Mercado

As Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Mercado is responsible for the strategic growth of the firm as well as oversight of the day-to-day activities of the firm’s operations team. He is also responsible for the design and implementation of the company’s insights strategy and data team, comprised of the engineering and research departments.

Mr. Mercado began at B6 in July 2018. Upon his hiring, he served as Chief Information Officer. Prior to joining B6, Adrian founded Alero Advisors, a data strategies advisory firm that focused on the real estate technology sector. Before Alero, he worked as Head of Product of Urbint, a data intelligence company focused on helping cities become more resilient.

Adrian has a long history of work in real estate with experience as Managing Director of Research in the Capital Markets Group at Cushman & Wakefield from 2015 to 2016. In this position, he was responsible for the department’s day-to-day activities and was a member of the Global Data and Technology Strategy team. From 2010 to 2015, he served as Vice President of Research at Massey Knakal Realty Services.

He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut. He currently serves as an advisor for StreetWire and SpaceIt.

Alex Woodlief

Alex Woodlief is a Director of Investment Sales with B6 Real Estate Advisors specializing in Manhattan’s Midtown South market. Alex has specific expertise with value-add loft office, commercial development and ground lease transactions. In his career, he has been involved in the underwriting, sale and capital raising for over $4-billion of New York City commercial real estate.

Alex joined B6 from Kaufman Investments, the institutional acquisition arm of the Kaufman Organization, one of New York’s oldest and largest private owners of office buildings. At Kaufman, he was responsible for sourcing new investment opportunities, managing landlord partnerships and business development initiatives.

Prior to Kaufman, Alex was an associate in the capital markets group of Cushman & Wakefield where he focused on middle-market investment sale transactions in Manhattan. Earlier, he raised capital for real estate credit and equity strategies for REIT sponsor American Realty Capital. Prior, he served as Asset Manager for SigEp National Housing, a boutique owner/operator and lender specializing in student housing assets nationwide.

Alex graduated from Northeastern University with a B.S. in Political Science. He is a licensed real estate salesperson in New York and has held his FINRA Series 7 & 63 licenses.

Alexandra Curtin

Ms. Curtin is an Associate at B6 Real Estate Advisors where she works alongside Director, Brian Whelan, focusing on investment sales in the Washington Heights and Inwood neighborhoods.

Prior to joining B6, Ms. Curtin worked at the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START), a Department of Homeland Security research center, where she worked with the Unconventional Weapons and Technology team on their Aviation Insider Threat Project.

Just before joining B6 in July 2019, Ms. Curtin graduated from the College of the Holy Cross where she majored in International Studies and minored in both French and Studio Art. At Holy Cross, Ms. Curtin was a member of the Women’s Track and Field team, serving as captain her senior year. As a member of the Track & Field team, she set multiple records and was selected as the winner of Holy Cross’s 2019 John A. Meegan Athletic Achievement Award. In addition to making the Dean’s List/Patriot League Honor Roll while competing at the NCAA Division I level, Ms. Curtin was also an active member of the Real Estate Club.

Born and raised in Winchester, Massachusetts, Ms. Curtin became interested in real estate at a young age from shadowing her grandmother who enjoyed a long career as a realtor in the Greater Boston Area. In her free time, Ms. Curtin enjoys running, painting, and spending time with her family and friends.

Andy Chen

Mr. Chen is a Director at B6 Real Estate Advisors, where he oversees investment sales in Northeast Queens markets.

Prior to joining B6, Mr. Chen founded Bold Realty Corp in 2014, a commercial and residential real estate brokerage firm based in Flushing, NY. Previously, he spent 9 years at RE/MAX People Realty. Through his career, Mr. Chen established himself as a top producing broker in the Queens and New York City markets. He prides himself on the ability to maintain close personal connections with extensive network of clients.

Mr. Chen is a first-generation immigrant from Fuzhou, and he has pursued his American dreams with drive and passion. Early in his career, he started a successful Chinese restaurant business in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he spent 9 years running and managing the business before moving to New York City in 2005.

Mr. Chen graduated from Ben Smith High School in Greensboro, North Carolina. He currently resides in Port Washington with his family.

Ben Rechler

Mr. Rechler is an investment sales associate at B6 Real Estate Advisors, where he works alongside DJ Johnston, Partner, Senior Managing Director of The Johnston Team focusing on investment sales in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant, Bushwick, Crown Heights, Prospects Lefferts Gardens, and Stuyvesant Heights neighborhood.

Prior to joining B6 Mr. Rechler built an agency called SPM Soccer and represented soccer players. SPM Soccer became a separate division based off of Sports Professional Management, which has been a top hockey agency for more than thirty years. He successfully negotiated numerous professional contracts, endorsement deals and built a network with hundreds of coaches, GMs, scouts and players. Mr. Rechler hired an agent, who he mentored for a year, to maintain SPM Soccer’s current clients and expand.

Now the fourth generation of his family to get into the Real Estate Industry, Mr. Rechler has experience working with his family’s company called Rechler Equity. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Syracuse University in 2015.

Bobby Lawrence

Bobby Lawrence is a Director of Investment Sales at B6 Real Estate Advisors, where he oversees a team that sells investment property in Brooklyn with a focus on the Brownstone and Southwest Brooklyn markets. To date, he has successfully transacted 20 deals for an aggregate dollar volume of $50 million. Before joining B6, he began his real estate career as a Commercial Real Estate Agent with Marcus & Millichap.

Mr. Lawrence views the broker and client relationship as one that must be based on trust earned by the broker – often requiring extraordinary efforts to serve his clients’ interests. He believes that the opportunity to provide his clients with consistently sound and reliable counsel is both a privilege and the most effective way to build long-term – and mutually beneficial – partnerships with his clients.

Born and raised in Summit, NJ, Mr. Lawrence earned his bachelor’s degree in History from Colgate University where he was also a captain of the university’s Division 1 Men’s Varsity Lacrosse team and an NCAA All-American. In his spare time, Mr. Lawrence volunteers with Harlem Lacrosse and still plays lacrosse competitively with the New York Athletic Club, previously performing as a starting defender for the Florida Launch of Major League Lacrosse.

Brian Whelan

Brian Whelan is a Director at B6 Real Estate Advisors, focusing on investment sales in New York City, with a special focus on Upper Manhattan. To date, he has successfully transacted on 33 deals for a total dollar volume in excess of $80 million. His experience covers a diverse range of asset types including multifamily, development, land, retail, residential, medical, and hospitality. Prior to joining B6, he served as an Associate at Marcus & Millichap’s investment sales division based in Manhattan.

A tenacious self-starter, Brian is recognized as a talented dealmaker by his clients and prides himself on being a straight shooter with in-depth market knowledge garnered through years spent honing his craft. He is an effective communicator who has a reputation for running a transparent and highly visible marketing process that taps into the widest pool of active buyers in the market.

Born and raised in Ireland, Brian moved to New York in 2010 shortly after graduating from the National University of Ireland in Galway with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce. His previous work experience includes roles in accountancy at Pinnacle Environmental, project management at JP Morgan, and business development at Shoreline Contracts.

In addition to real estate, Brian has a passion for sports, especially golf, and founded the Hudson Golf Society in 2016, which today boasts a membership of over 50 golfers in the New York area. Brian met his wife Aisling back in Ireland and today they reside in Bergen County, New Jersey with their two children JJ and Willow.

Brock Emmetsberger

Mr. Emmetsberger is a Senior Managing Director at B6 Real Estate Advisors where he oversees investment sales in the Chelsea and Greenwich Village territory. Prior to joining B6 Mr. Emmetsberger was a Managing Director in the Capital Markets Group of Jones Lang LaSalle, where he focused on investment sales in downtown Manhattan. He is actively marketing properties on an exclusive basis to prospective investors and working closely with owners to successfully close transactions. Since 2004, he has been involved in more than $1,700,000,000 worth of property transactions in New York City (160 properties sold). Previously, Mr. Emmetsberger was First Vice President of Sales at Massey Knakal Realty Services, which was acquired by Cushman & Wakefield on December 31, 2014.

On an annual basis, he regularly participates in 20% of all commercial property sales transactions in Chelsea and has set records repeatedly for multifamily and land pricing in the neighborhood. In recent years he has been retained by multiple principals of real estate brokerages to sell their personally owned commercial properties. His most notable 2020 transactions prior to joining B6 include the sale of 340 West 23rd Street for $7,550,000 and 56 West 22nd Street for $48,500,000. Additionally in 2020, Mr. Emmetsberger was responsible for four of the eleven properties sold in the Chelsea neighborhood, amongst other sales he completed in New York City .

Born in Manhattan and raised in Stamford, Connecticut, Mr. Emmetsberger and his wife are 16-year residents of New York City.

Mr. Emmetsberger graduated from Miami University‘s Richard T. Farmer School of Business with a BS in Business, majoring in Finance. He completed a study abroad program in Europe focusing on international account principles and business law. Mr. Emmetsberger also spent a semester at the Dolibois European Center in Luxembourg.
